Daily Routines
8:00 The Bell Rings- Class begins
8:00-8:45 Good Morning Circle and Calendar
(All students sit in a circle on the carpet. We take turns and go around the circle saying "Good Morning" to each other and telling each other one thing we like about them. Once everyone in the circle has been greeted we turn and face the calendar while our Student of the Week changes the day, writes it on the board and changes the weather for that day.)
8:45-10:20 Centers
(During this time, the students break up into their groups that I have put them in. The five groups will each have a turn at one of the five stations for 15 minutes each and 5 minute transition times. These stations include: Math, Writing, Independent Reading, Computer Games, and Group reading with Ms. Chapman.)
10:20-10:30 Bathroom Break
(The students line up and we quietly walk to the bathroom. Four students are allowed to go at one time; two boys and two girls, while the rest of the students wait quietly in the hall. We make sure everyone that has to go, does at this time.)
10:30-11:10 PE or Art
(After bathroom break, the students line up quietly and I walk them to PE on "A" days and Music on "B" days. When they are done, I pick them up at the door and we walk quietly back to our classroom.)
11:10-11:20 Independent Reading
(At this time, students read their independent library book or choose from one of my books in the classroom. They are allowed to sit anywhere in the classroom as long as they are reading quietly by themselves and not disrupting others.)
11:20-11:30 Wash Hands
(At this time, we line up and walk to the bathroom. Four students at a time will be allowed to go wash their hands; two boys and two girls. Once all students are finished washing their hands, we begin walking to the lunch room.)
11:30-12:30 Lunch and Recess
(I walk all of the students down to the lunch room and help the students with hot lunch get their trays and sides. After they eat, they go to recess, either inside or outside, weather permitting. I pick them up after recess.)
12:30-12:40 Bathroom Break
12:40-1:10 Math
(At this time, we have our math lesson. These vary in class lessons, group work, independent work, and sometimes a Chapter Test.)
1:10-1:30 Science or Social Studies
(At this time, the class has a Social Studies lesson on "A" days and Science lesson on "B" days.)
1:30-2:00 Language Arts
(At this time, the class has a Language Arts lesson. This usually involves some type of writing activity.)
2:00-2:20 Reflection Time
(This is the time when the class regathers on the carpet and we discuss everything we learned that day. We then take turns saying our favorite thing about the day.)
2:20-2:30 Clean Up and Good-Bye
(During this time, all of the students clean up their individual areas and bring their planner to me so that I can write a note to their parent/guardian about how they behaved that day. I then play the goodbye song.)
